A taste of Icelandic Food at W6!

A taste of Icelandic Food at W6!

Two of our sixth form students, Vitaliy and Filip, are taking over the canteen on Tuesday 24th April at lunch time, giving students and teachers at the academy an insight into Icelandic food.

On the day Vitaliy and Filip will be serving Pylsur and Kleinur, Iceland’s famous hot dog with all the trimmings, and a yummy dessert afterwards. Students are able to purchase this unique meal with their usual student cards operated by Wisepay, and take part in the academy’s celebration of Icelandic cuisine!

We wish Icelandic W6 and SRWA Bears students, Vitaliy and Filip, the very best of luck for feeding the hungry mouths of our students (and teachers)!

Get yourself along to the canteen at lunchtime on Tuesday!

Fairtrade Fortnight 2018

During the fortnight of 26th February to 11th March we are extremely pleased to be participating in the Fairtrade Fortnight 2018 – a nationwide event aiming to promote the understanding and knowledge of the Fairtrade Foundation and its work. What does it mean if we buy Fairtrade certified products? Who benefits? How is the Fairtrade Premium spent by communities in LICs?

W6 students have constructed a series of school-wide activities this fortnight, including tutor presentations, tutor quizzes, Year 8 geography lessons, in addition to the supply of Fairtrade food & drink in the staff room & sixth form common room, and posters displayed around the Sir Robert Woodard Academy.

As part of the academies goal to equip students with making informed judgments in their life choices, we think this fortnight will be very beneficial in promoting awareness of ethical shopping, and allowing students to think more critically regarding their lifestyles.

Keep an eye out around the school and online for more information, or visit the Fairtrade Foundation website for more information about their work here.
