W6 Meet the Tutors BBQ 13th September

Every year, we host a BBQ at the start of term to allow 6th form tutors and the 6th form team to meet with parents. It is a great, informal way for parents to find out about the running of W6 as well as an opportunity to ask questions. There are also some new tutors joining our team, so year 13 students and their parents are also heartily encouraged to come along.

We invite all parents of 6th form students to meet with us, have a burger or sausage (or a veggie alternative) and a chat. We’d love to see you there. You can let us know you are coming by signing up below.

Exploring STEM Subjects at W6

Interested in exploring STEM subjects at sixth form and W6?

Thinking about Sixth Form choices and STEM?

Are you in year 10 and beginning to think about your choice of sixth form and the subjects you’ll study once you’ve finished your GCSEs? Maybe you aren’t even sure what you want to do, but are keen to find out about different courses and careers.

The world renowned engineering firm Ricardo and W6 Sixth Form at The Sir Robert Woodard Academy are hosting an evening about careers and further study in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) for students in year 10 and their parents. The event will be held at the impressive Centenary Innovation Centre at Ricardo’s Shoreham Technical Centre. The evening will be held on Wednesday 20th June, from 6 – 7:30pm.

About the Evening

Join us at 6pm as junior engineers, recent graduates and other Ricardo personnel share their stories of their education and the career paths that led them to where they are today.

There will be an opportunity to speak with Ricardo staff about their jobs and their studies. W6 Sixth Form students following STEM courses will also be ready and willing to have a chat about life in sixth form, how it differs to GCSEs, and the choices they made. They will also be able to offer any advice that may help you in deciding your next steps. Teaching staff from W6 Sixth form will be on hand to discuss the subjects you could choose and what they involve.

There will be the chance to get hands-on with some engineering challenges and to get a feel for what engineering and STEM is all about.

The Tour

Following all of this, you will be able to take a tour around the world class production facilities where some of the most impressive engineering solutions have been developed and made.

And before you start believing this is an event aimed at boys, think again. The world of STEM is ready and waiting for talented young women, so come along.

If you are interested and want to find out more, please see the EventBrite site, or alternatively visit our dedicated Facebook event page. We look forward to working closely once again with Ricardo.

Enrolment and Recruitment

Joining W6

If students are at the focus of what colleges do, then why is applying so difficult?

Here at W6 sixth form college, we pride ourselves on being student-focussed & led with technology, social media & excellent teaching at our core, and we are proud of the unique application process that we offer.  We are also proud to be home to the Sussex Bears Basketball Academy, and boast our own academic pathways with a spotlight on STEM, Virtuoso, Medical and Academic Excellence.

The application process is now open for current year 11 students to apply for a place at W6, beginning from September 2018. Key dates include:

  • 27 November 2017 – enrolment interviews commence
  • 8 December 2017 – deadline for application forms to receive priority processing

Our Open Evening for 2017 was Thursday 19th October from 6pm until 8pm. Please get in touch if you weren’t able to make it but would like to find out about W6. We had a great turnout; with approximately 300 students and parents in attendance. We enjoyed lots of great conversations with present students, teachers, music from our Music Performance students, shooting hoops with the Basketball Academy and quite a lot of cake in the W6 common room.

Unsure of which courses to select? Mr Monahan and the W6 team will be holding assemblies for current SRWA students during the beginning of November, and will be happy to offer guidance during enrolment interviews. View the course handbook for specific details, or visit the UCAS website for a range of academic resources to help you find the right courses for you.

To apply, you can download and complete the application form here, to submit a paper application to the Academy.

Its not too late to apply – download the form and return it to us to join W6.
