Careers

W6 is committed to providing our students with a programme of careers education, advice and guidance (CEIADG) for all students in year 12 and 13.

In March 2015 we were reassessed for ‘Investor in Careers’ and again we achieved the award. This is a nationally recognised quality standard for the management of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) in schools. By achieving this award it demonstrates a strong, whole school commitment to careers and the principles of Investor in Careers.

We are part of the Widening Participation Programme, and we work very closely with Brighton, Chichester and Sussex Universities. The initiative and the aim is to increase the number of students from under-represented groups participating in higher education. The universities will come in to support and work with the students in order to raise their awareness and aspirations.

We also have partnership agreements with Brighton University, Chichester University and Sussex University. Other partnerships include Ricardo, Northbrook College, Barclays Lifeskills, Business in the Community, and Coastal West Sussex amongst others. We work very closely with businesses in the community, namely Lancing Business Park and Parafix. These links also form the core of our academic Pathways.

Year 12 and Year 13

Students are supported by the Widening Participation Team, who offer support and advice to students and parents regarding the various university programmes. For those students not wishing to attend university we work with various apprenticeship teams. All students are encouraged to take part in work experience.

Each half term we invite local employers in to the Academy to talk to students about their career paths and the journey they took. Over the last year we have had a Midwife from St Richard’s Hospital, Doctor from Worthing hospital and a Pilot from Thomas Cook. Local business people and parent/carers have also shared their career journeys with the students. The Army have also attended the Academy, which lead to students completing a weeks work experience with the Army during May half term at Okehampton.

Our Careers Mentor is Mrs Morley and she is located within the W6 6th form are, her email address is amorley@srwa.woodard.co.uk
